Read Our Editorial PolicyBetween the years of 2010 and 2011, I spent my time living, working, traveling and photographing in Australia. I explored the entire eastern half of the continent, which subsequently sparked my wanderlust.
Aside from the memories, these 20 photos are about the only things I have left to show for my time there. And I wouldn’t want it any other way.
Small Town, Tasmania
Tasmania is dotted with sleepy beach towns on all sides. This day, on the northern coast, was spent driving from town to town, enjoying the beaches and hiking small hills and mountains, in search of the best Tasmanian vistas.
Four-wheeling on Fraser Island
Located off the coast of Southern Queensland, Fraser Island is the largest sand island in the world. Most notably, travelers and tourists (like myself) pile into four-wheelers and go camping and exploring for days on end.
Uluru at Sunset
The icon of Australia, Uluru turns a brilliant red at sunset. I arrived only moments before this giant rock turned this magnificent color.
The Brisbane City Skyline
A view of Brisbane, from the Brisbane Eye (the Australian equivalent of the original landmark in London), in South Bank.
Hiking Cradle Mountain
When hiking Cradle Mountain in Tasmania, I stumbled across this small shack, set amongst the lush greenery of this unspoilt island.
Snakes Fighting
A vicious snake fight, caught on camera on one of the iconic Whitsunday Islands!
Whitehaven Beach, Whitsunday Island
The trademark Australian beach, located on Whitsunday Island, off the coast of Airlie Beach, in Central Queensland.
Cape Willoughby, Kangaroo Island
Kangaroo Island is off the coast of Adelaide in South Australia. Cape Willoughby, on the east coast, is home to the very first lighthouse in South Australia. This photo was taken from said lighthouse, looking down at the caretaker’s cottages. I slept in the middle one for three nights.
Sunset in the Town of 1770
Australia has no shortage of stunning sunsets. This was taken after a motorcycle ride in the Town of 1770 in Queensland (yes, that’s actually its name!). Sitting on the rocks, enjoying a bowl of chips, I watched the sun descend over the boats and kayaks of this small town.
The Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge
Two more famous Australian landmarks! Taken on a cruise around the Sydney Harbour.
Crocodiles on the Yellow River, Kakadu National Park
Taken from a small boat, from only a meter or two away. The Yellow River, in Kakadu National Park, is home to vast amounts of wildlife. This boy was about ten feet long and was one of about 15 wild crocs I saw that day.
Coastline, Great Ocean Road
The Great Ocean Road is a stretch of highway that runs along the south-eastern coast of Australia. On this particular morning, the seas were rough and the winds were high. The spray from the waves rose above the sea, misting the heavy air.
The Road to Uluru
Taken completely by accident, while driving, with my camera on the wrong setting. The only way to get to Uluru is by car, so consider renting one.
The Solway Lass, in the Whitsunday Islands
Built in 1902, the Solway Lass operates out of Airlie Beach, cruising through the famous Whitsunday Islands. Here she is at sunset.
Mama Koala and Her Baby
I watched on in amazement as this mama koala scurried down from one tree, across the ground and up another tree. All the while, baby koala hung on for dear life. Taken on Kangaroo Island in South Australia.
Bay of Fires, Tasmania
The eastern coast of Tasmania hosts some of the cleanest, most sumptuous beaches and coastline I’ve ever encountered. The Bay of Fires is where I found my paradise.
The Small Beach Town of Yamba
The small beach towns of Australia are by far my favorite. Early morning surfing, afternoon frisbee and volleyball, following by night time beers and cider. And Yamba loves the water so much, they even built a pool right next to the ocean!
Sunset on Magnetic Island
I’ll never tire of the Australian Sunset. On my last day on Magnetic Island, after hiking through the old forts from WWII, the sun came down quickly, and left this behind.

Camping in Tasmania
Australia is a travelers dream, and I spent two weeks camping in Tasmania. Here, I’m on the northern coast, with a view of Stanley in the background.

If these people only new there are a million more fabulous photos to take in Australia .We are very nice ordinary people and we hope it stays that way .The country is Old and Rough and very ,very stunningly beautiful .Come and have a look .
Have done the east coast about 6 times and these photos are great ! Never travelled to Tasmania and it’s looks fantastic and unspoilt

Absolutely stunning array of photos! Australia is a breathtaking and incredibly diverse country and you have done a brilliant job a showing it in it’s most stunning light! I genuinely love all of these images though am most drawn to jump into the pic of the Cradle Mountain trek!
