With the wind blowing through your hair and the sound of crashing waves around you, a boat trip is considered one of the ultimate vacation activities. And to many, the feeling cruising the open waters is one of the most freeing and relaxing experiences you can have!

There are different types of trips for every type of traveler. Whether you’re sailing the Atlantic or sunbathing on a luxury yacht, you’re guaranteed to find a boat that fits your vacation style. But before you get behind the steering helm, take a look at some of our favorite boating destinations in the United States.

1. Newport Beach, California

Home to sun-soaked beaches and laid-back vibes, Newport Beach is an excellent destination for water activities. It’s also one of the best recreational boating areas not just in California, but along the entire west coast! The waters are generally calm, which means its a safe boating destination for sailors of all experience levels.

Hop aboard a pontoon boat charter, or rent your own fishing boat for a  truly unique Southern California experience. And if you’re looking for a more luxurious way to spend your vacation, consider hiring a yacht to take you out into open waters. Just make sure to watch out for those Californian surfers!

2. Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Florida may be home to some of the best boating destinations in the US, and Fort Lauderdale is no exception. In fact, this tropical escape is known as the yachting capital of the world, with over 40,000 boats and yachts in the harbors.

But even if you don’t have a mega-yacht, you can still enjoy the crystal clear waters of Fort Lauderdale. Scuba divers will also love the offshore coral reefs, which home to some of the dive spots in the country.

Best of all, you’re just a stone’s throw away from the Bahamas. A trip from Fort Lauderdale to Freeport only takes a couple of hours to reach!

Appropriately nicknamed the “Ocean State”, Rhode Island’s historic capital is a great place to soak in the outdoors. Not only does Providence have an ideal climate for sailing, but it also has a plethora of landmarks that can be seen from the water.

For a classic New England experience, sail to one of the many lighthouses dotted around the city. Rose Island Light, Beavertail Light, and Watch Hill Light are just a couple of lighthouses worth visiting in Providence.
