15 Best Campervan Rental Companies for Your US Road Trip

Outdoorsy is the Airbnb of campervan rentals. It’s one of the largest camper van rental companies in the country. It provides an online platform where owners connect with RV and van owners. ​​Not only is it the most trusted marketplace for camper van rentals around, but it’s also incredibly user-friendly.

The platform is a peer-to-peer marketplace, meaning you rent from private RV and van owners instead of a company-owned fleet. You’ll find an extensive range of RVs. From luxurious Class A motorhomes to compact campervans, with Class B, Class C, tent campers, and everything in between.

The site is easy to navigate. Just type in rental locations, and Outdoorsy displays all the available RV rentals. You can also filter your search to display campervan-only results or any other RV type you wish to browse.

If Outdoorsy is the Airbnb of RVs, RVezy is its younger cousin who just recently entered the market. But RVezy is already giving Outdoorsy direct competition. Both camper van rental companies offer a wide range of vans and RVs to choose from.

The company first launched in Canada back in 2017, where it quickly became the King of campervan rentals. It recently crossed the border to enter the US market, bringing along its best selection of RVs and first-class customer support services.

Just like Outdoorsy, RVezy is an online van rental platform that uses a peer-to-peer model to link RV owners with rentees. Renting a camper van from RVezy is as easy as typing your destination into their site and then choosing one from a list of impressive and verified RVs.

While the company has a huge RV selection and is well-known in Canada, it’s still gaining momentum in the US. Compared to Outdoorsy, RVezy in the US has a smaller selection of camper vans and rental locations. But this deficit is likely temporary since the company is determined to establish a strong US market.

Escape Campervans is one of the largest van rental companies in the USA, offering their own converted vans to rent. It was founded by three surfers in 2003 in New Zealand and then they expanded to the United States in 2009.

Now they operate rental locations in more than thirteen cities, with Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Francisco, Salt Lake City, and Denver on the list. If you’re in Canada, no worries. The company’s campervan rentals are also available in Vancouver and Calgary.

While most rental companies are focused in the West, Escape Campervans is one of the few that is available on the East Coast with their locations in New York and Orlando. Because they have so many rental locations, it's pretty easy to find a place to start your road trip.

The highlight of Escape Campervans is that they are hand-painted by local artists. Think, gram-worthy pictures and aesthetically pleasing postcards...if you don’t mind all the attention you’ll be attracting.

Their vans can sleep two to five people. One of their most popular models is the Maverick—spacious on the inside but still small enough to drive through crowded parking lots.

Rental rates begin at $33 per day but pick up during peak season. These rates are also dependent on the RV model, pick-up or drop-off location, and the duration of your trip. The longer you rent an RV, the lower the cost.

The mileage restriction for Escape Campervans is 100 miles per day, and exceeding this limit means you have to pay an additional fee at the rate that corresponds to your vehicle’s model. If you have driven less than the mileage limit, you’ll receive a refund for the unused miles. This means they are better for slower-paced traveling than a long haul road trip.

Like Outdoorsy, RVShare is a peer-to-peer marketplace that has received thousands of five-star reviews from satisfied customers.

RVShare's site is easy to navigate and search for a camper van rental near you. It’s as simple as entering your location and trip dates to view available camper vans. You can filter the results based on the type of camper van, price, delivery, and pet-friendly options.

It’s interesting to know that RVShare was actually the first to enter the RV rental marketplace with a peer-to-peer model in 2012.

The company is mostly focused on operating in the U.S., with more than 100,000 RVs across the country. From high-end Class A motorhomes to Class B campervans, fifth wheels, and travel trailers, you can find a wide selection on RVShare’s site.

If you want to head out on an epic road trip across the Southwest or West Coast, Travellers Autobarn has you covered with a fleet of surprisingly affordable vans for rent. With locations in Las Vegas, Las Angeles, and San Francisco, it's easy to fly in, pick one up, and head out on the road.

One thing that sets Travellers Autobarn apart is that they offer minivan rentals in addition to larger converted campervans. These minivans still fit a mattress in the back and can come with a cooler and a simple gas cooktop. They definitely aren't as nice as full size vans, but their cheaper, easier to drive, and burn a lot less gas. If you're okay with having fewer creature comforts, these minivan rentals are a great way to travel without spending a fortune.

The best part? Every van rental from Travellers Autobarn comes with unlimited daily miles. That's right, there's no extra charge for driving farther, so you don't have to worry about racking up miles to see everything you want to see. If you're wanting to visit multiple national parks or cruise along the coast, that's a huge bonus and can save you a lot of money.

Established in 1972 by Robert Smalley Sr., Cruise America is one of the biggest RV rental companies today. Unlike Outdoorsy and RVezy, Cruise America is a corporate rental company with one of the largest fleets in North America. They have locations everywhere from San Francisco to Salt Lake City to Miami.

Chances are, you’ve probably seen one of their rentals on the road or at National Parks. With unique, elaborate designs on the exterior (including the quintessential photo of a dog in the door’s window), it’s impossible to forget a Cruise America RV. With one of their rentals, you can easily cruise America in style.

Their fleet comprises four models that can sleep anywhere from two to seven travelers:

1. Large RV: fit for a family of up to seven people.
2. Standard RV: perfect for up to five people.
3. Compact RV: sleeps up to three people.
4. Truck Camper: can sleep a maximum of two people—ideal for a couple or someone who’s still a rookie in the RV game.

Along with renting out RVs, Cruise America also sells pre-owned RVs at a reduced cost.

Cabana is a franchise van rental company that currently offers campervan rentals in Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Austin.

Unlike peer-to-peer camper van rental companies like Outdoorsy, all their vans are part of their franchise-owned fleets, and they are all professionally built specifically for Cabana. This has both advantages and disadvantages.

Cabana positions itself as a “modern, mobile hospitality company. Renting a Cabana really is like getting a hotel room on wheels, and you get a lot more convenience than most van rentals. Cabana vans come fully loaded with clean linens, toiletries, camp chairs, and a coffee machine. With so much ready for you, it’s easy to hit the road in comfort.

Cabana also has their own app for scheduling rentals, and their vans are fitted with electronic locks for contactless pickup. It is super easy to pick up a van and get on the road. The app also has manuals and helpful instructions that show you how to operate everything in the van.

One great thing about Cabana’s system is that you know what you are getting, and their vans are beautiful. You can check out their van layouts and features, and you know that every van will have the same amenities.

Of course, that means you don’t get much to choose from. They technically have three different models available, but they aren’t all available at the different rental locations, and there aren’t huge differences between them anyway. As long as you’re happy with their setup.

Cabana is also quite a bit more expensive than most other camper van rentals out there. You get great amenities, quality, and service, but if you’re looking for the cheapest option, you’ll probably want to look elsewhere.

In my mind, Cabana is fantastic for people looking to try van travel for the first time. Their contactless pickup is super easy, and their vans are well stocked to make it as easy as possible to get out traveling, whether you're visiting famous cities or checking off National Parks.

Denver-based company, Native Campervans, is a local company that offers fully-equipped, customized camper vans for long and short-term journeys. They have rental locations in Denver, Salt Lake City, or Las Vegas for a West American road trip.

Choosing a van from Native Campervans is so simple. They have three types of vans: the “Smalls,” the “Biggie,” and the “Squad.”

The “Smalls” is a remodeled Dodge Grand Caravan, and the “Biggie” is a Ram ProMaster HighRoof. Both these vans sleep two, but Biggie is, obviously, more spacious and can seat up to three people.

If you’re a group of four, go for the “Squad.” With a bed and waterproof rooftop tent, all four of your squad members can comfortably sleep in/on this van.

Besides a convertible bed, rentals also include bedding, camping chairs, a foldaway table, and a small kitchen with a gas stove, sink, and cooking essentials. Basically, all the necessary amenities you would need on a campervan trip.

Rates depend on the season and trip duration but range between $80-140 per day in the off-season and $110-240 per day during peak season. Rentals have a mileage limit of 100 miles per night, and any excess mileage is charged at a rate of $0.25 per mile.

If you love those old-school VWs, Peace Vans might just be your favorite option from this list.

Based in Seattle, WA, they offer their retro camper van rentals across the Pacific Northwest. They also specialize in the repair and maintenance of VW campers. They’re actually the largest VW campervan shop in North America.

Once, a couple drove from Alabama all the way to the company’s shop in Seattle so their precious VW could get a winter makeover. That’s some real dedication, folks!

The company caters to the hip and cool. They spice up their travel vans with cookware, wine glasses, freshly-ground coffee, and more thoughtful and surprising additions. It's like boutique #vanlife.

Peace Vans has a way of charming its customers. They also provide itineraries or help you plan yours. Harley Sitner, the owner, says he has worked with families and their photos from the ‘70s to recreate childhood trips. Heartwarming, right?

Just in case you’re not a fan of the iconic VW camper vans, or the groovy Vanagon vibe doesn’t appeal to you, the company also rents out stylish Mercedes campers.

There are a lot of fleet rental companies out there, but there are still a lot of advantages to peer-to-peer rental marketplaces. GoCamp is another platform where van owners can rent out their vehicles for you to use and enjoy. They are often more affordable, you get way more options, and you can find rentals all over the country.

One difference between GoCamp and other rental platforms like Outdoorsy is that there are only campervans here, and they have a higher standard overall for the vans that are listed. There's still a huge range to choose from, though. You can get an uber-luxurious sprinter van with full kitchens and bathrooms, or a monster 4x4 lifted adventure machine.

Vintage Surfari Wagons is similar to Peace Vans in that they also offer a range of classic Volkswagen camper vans for rent.

The company is, however, closer to Southern California. Its location makes it a better option for Californians seeking an old-school VW camper van rental.

Time travel back to the ‘70s era with their wide range of Vanagons, Eurovans, and buses for rent. Their rates are pretty reasonable and sit somewhere near the middle of the range for camper van rental prices.

Voyager Campervans are nicely spread out across the United States, with rental locations in Los Angeles, Portland, Nashville, Phoenix, Austin, and Minneapolis. One of my favorite things about this company is that you can plan a one-way trip and drop off your van at any location! most camper van rental companies only let you pick up and drop off at the same location, so this is great for long-haul trips.

Voyager Camper Vans come with a large bed, off-grid power, a stove with cooking fuel, linens, cookware, and a water source. If you’re an eco-friendly kind of person, you’ll appreciate that these vans have extra sustainable touches, like solar-powered coolers.

It’s also super convenient to travel with Voyager Campervans: you can use self-check-in to save yourself some time, and you’ll get up to 175 miles per day included in your daily rate. You’re all set to go without worrying about too much about mileage.

Ok, enough about old-school, vintage campervans that belong in grandma’s yard. It’s not always “old is gold.” Sometimes, it’s about the fine luxuries and comfort.

Moterra Campervans is a locally-owned campervan rental company based in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and they have rental locations all over the West, from Salt Lake City to San Francisco to Las Vegas. They offer three types of campervans, all of which are 4WD Diesel Sprinters. These include pop-tops and high-roof Sprinters.

The all-inclusive luxury Sprinter vehicles come fully equipped with everything you could possibly need for your trip as a standard. Moterra’s vehicles also feature a full kitchen with a stove, sink, and fridge, a thermostat heater, a solar electric system, and a porta-potty toilet.

To accommodate up to four people, the pop-top vans have two double beds. The high-roof vans sleep two or a family of three with a small child, making them ideal for couples. High-roof vans also come with a full bathroom (a hot water shower and toilet).

These decked-out come at a cost, though. Moterra campervan rentals are some of the most expensive out there. It's worth it if you want to cruise in luxury, but there are less expensive options if you don't need the absolute best van on the market.

In addition to the basic amenities, Moterra provides entirely customized itineraries, so you don’t have to spend hours planning your own.

With Roamerica, you can rent camper vans from Portland and travel anywhere in the United States and Canada with your family.

The company offers Ford Econolines and Ford Transits with both 2WD and 4WD. Their vans come fully equipped with everything you could need for a campervan trip.

Each vehicle comfortably accommodates four individuals or a family of five with small children. Along with standing room inside, vehicles have two beds, a full kitchen, cooking essentials, and camping gear. They also include a set of Gazetteer Maps for Oregon, Washington, and California and a deck of cards for an easy and entertaining road trip.

Like some of the other company-owned fleet camper van rentals, Roamerica camper vans are pricy compared to peer-to-peer rentals. It's up to you to decide if the quality, convenience, and peace of mind is worth paying a bit more for.

Focused more on convenience and efficiency than luxury or aesthetics, Campervan North America offers five different campervan models. These include the likes of a converted Nissan NV, Dodge Promaster, a Mercedes Freightliner, and more.

You can easily rent a van with this campervan rental company based in Bozeman with a rental location in Denver, Las Vegas, and Seattle. Their vans sleep from two to five people depending on the model. Some models have kitchen equipment like a stove, sink, and fridge, while others don’t. Only the “Two4theRoad” and “Clanhauler” include a toilet with a shower.

While many owned-fleet camper van rental companies only offer a few different models that don't have much differentiating them, it's nice that Campervan North America has a wide range to choose from. You're sure to find a van that fits the needs of your trip.
